Now Trending: CBD!

Updated: Feb 20, 2020

CBD is everywhere, but why now?

Everywhere you turn there’s another CBD product or store popping up. Even your favorite grocery stores now have huge signs stating that they carry CBD. Most people think that CBD is a fairly new “product” or “supplement”, but that’s not the case at all. The CBD that is now federally legal is derived from the hemp plant, and my friends, the hemp plant is older than this country!

Legal? Illegal?

Hemp has been around North America since the 1600s. It was a main crop in America, being used for paper, rope, lantern oil, and more! Remember reefer madness (insert eyeroll), well, because of that ordeal and the passage of the Controlled Substances Act of 1970, which classified THC as a schedule I substance, hemp was deemed federally illegal, on ALL fronts. To be clear, a schedule I drug is a substance, or chemical defined as a drug with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Schedule I drugs are federally illegal, thus outlawing hemp along with marijuana.

Fast forward to 2018, the 2018 Hemp Farm Bill was passed, and hemp became federally legal again! It was removed from the DEA scheduling and was now able to be grown, sold, consumed, and more importantly, researched! CBD is present in hemp. Hemp is now federally legal. We now can do research on CBD’s benefits and can also extract the CBD(and other constituents) from the plant. This allows us to manufacture CBD products so that people can incorporate CBD into their daily lives to help achieve optimum wellness.

What exactly does that mean?

Since the legal shift in hemp, CBD is much more prevalent, because now it’s legal to produce, sell, buy, and consume! So now any Tom, Dick, or Harriet, can wholesale or manufacture CBD products whenever, and wherever they want to! Which is why you’re seeing CBD stores on every corner, or advertisements in every shop window. With that being said, CBD products are not made the same and QUALITY MATTERS! I know it’s easy to fall into the gimmicks at local malls or on social media but researching the production and quality of the CBD products that you’re using is very important in order to achieve results. CBD is fabulous! And I’m thrilled that it’s now so easily accessible! Just be smart about it and do your research. Don’t be afraid to ask for 3rd party lab results, or where the hemp is grown. I’ll go further into quality in a future post.

So, is CBD just a trend or a "fad"?

Not necessarily. But is it opening a door to a world of amazing possibilities? Absolutely! Hemp and cannabis are not a trend, they are here to stay, and I am totally here for it! There is still so much to learn about the potential benefits of CBD and cannabis in general. Did you know that only 14% of Americans use CBD?! There's still so many people who have yet to even try CBD! Now I know some of you “trend strayers” (I’m one myself. I hate trends and do things years after they’re “cool”) are skeptical. But the CBD train is an awesome one to take a ride on and is totally worth giving a try!
