Can CBD fight a cold?

Updated: Feb 20, 2020

As you all know, I'm going to Vegas TOMORROW! EEK! I'm pumped!! So, I'm sure you can imagine my disappointment when I began to feel the dreaded oncoming of a cold on Thursday night. My throat began to get scratchy, I had the "yep, this is it" sneeze, and I thought it was all down hill from there. Was it the flu? A yucky cold that my kids passed along? CORONAVIRUS?! "I'm going on a trip in 5 days! I don't have time to be sick!", I thought to myself as I began immediately chugging water to try and flush the yuck out.

But then I remembered, I learned that CBD has antiviral properties. Hmm...could increasing my CBD and water intake help me ward off this bug before it evolves into to a full blown cold or worse? So that's what I did. My typical daily dose of CBD is between 25-33mg per day, give or take. Friday morning I began dosing with 10mg 5-6 times per day. Almost double my daily dose. Y'all!!!!! I'm not lying. My symptoms never got worse and actually started to lessen within 36 hours of increasing my dose. I couldn't believe it. The past few times I've gotten a cold, I've ended up with bronchitis that had me down and out for WEEKS. This time was different though. My congestion never fully came on nor did a sore throat, just the feeling of "getting sick" went away, my energy level maintained normal (not dropping as it would with a cold), and I was still able to work out.

I'm now on day 5 and at about 98% full health. "5 days, isn't that the average length of a common cold anyways, Liz, nice try! ::eyeroll::." Yeah, a common cold typically does last around 5-7 days. So did I have a cold? Probably. Did I experience symptoms during these past 5 days? Yes. Do I believe that CBD and increased fluids allowed me to experience much, much milder symptoms? Also yes. Knowing my body and how it has responded to a common cold or virus in the past, I was expecting(and dreading) a spiral into bronchitis within no time. A runny nose, full blown congestion to where I can't breathe, smell, think, or eat, decreased energy levels, then turning into a cough, resulting in bronchitis. That's been the cycle of my illnesses within the past couple years. So when it didn't progress, and I just got better, I was truly amazed, especially because there are so many germs floating around right now. I genuinely feel better, and couldn't be more thrilled about it!

So I'm not going to make claims of CBD curing the common cold or being a virus killing machine to be reckoned with. However, I will say that in my experience, while doing this little experiment on myself, that it is very possible that CBD can lessen the symptoms of a cold or other viruses. I was completely expecting to have a cold for this trip, but boy am I glad that I was proven wrong. Was it the increased water intake? Was it the increased dosing of CBD? Was it just a very mild viral infection? I will never know for sure. But what I do know is that I FEEL better! And honestly, that's what my goal is in life in general, but more importantly with CBD. I use it as a tool to help me feel my best, and this little experiment really solidified that for me. I already think that CBD is beyond incredible, but if I keep getting results like this while experimenting with my own health? Watch out, because I'll really be screaming from the rooftops about this plant! Have you tried CBD for a cold or flu? What was your experience like?
